I know how daunting technology can be, especially when it comes to our grandkids’ devices. But fear not, because I am here to share with you a must-have iOS feature called Guided Access!

Note: this is for iPhones only!

Now, before we dive into what Guided Access does, let’s first talk about why we need it. As we all know, our grandkids love to use our phones and tablets to watch videos, play games, and explore various apps. But have you ever noticed how easily they can get distracted or accidentally exit the app they were using? Or even accidentally respond to a text message you receive or make a random phone call?

Or even buy something without your permission. Yikes.

That’s where Guided Access comes in!

Guided Access is a feature that allows you to limit your iPhone to a single app and restrict certain features, such as the home button or touch screen. This means that when your grandkids are using your devices, they won’t be able to accidentally exit the app they were using or make any unwanted changes to the device.

So let’s say they have a YouTube video up, this will make sure they can’t exit out of it and go to something else.

Now, you may be wondering, “How do I enable Guided Access?” It’s actually quite simple!

Steps To Enable Guided Access

1. Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone.

2. Scroll down and select “Accessibility.”

3. Scroll down again and select “Guided Access” under “General.”

4. Toggle the switch to turn on Guided Access.

5. Set a passcode that you will remember (and/or enable FaceID). This will be used to exit Guided Access mode.

6. Open the app you want to use and triple-click the home button. If your iPhone doesn’t have a home button, triple-click the side button.

7. Adjust any settings as needed, such as disabling touch or motion controls.

That’s it! You’re now in Guided Access mode, which means that only the selected app will be accessible until you enter your passcode to exit the mode.

Now, you may be thinking, “But what if I need to use my phone for something else while my grandkids are using it?” Don’t worry, you can easily exit Guided Access by triple-clicking the home or side button again and entering your passcode.

Guided Access is not only a great tool for those times when you want to limit your own phone usage, but also to keep your grandkids safe while they use their own devices! By enabling Guided Access on your a device, you can limit distractions and focus on the task at hand.

In conclusion, Guided Access is a must-have feature for anyone who shares their iPhone or iPad with their grandkids. It’s easy to use, customizable, and provides peace of mind knowing that your grandkids won’t accidentally exit apps, make unwanted changes to a device, or click on a video they shouldn’t be watching. So give it a try and keep that Cocomelon action uninterrupted! 🙂
