Here’s a fun twist on the classic Rice Krispie Treats recipe called “Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Bars.” This easy and delicious dessert combines the flavors of chocolate and peanut butter, making it a hit for both kids and adults alike.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 bag (10 oz) of mini marshmallows
- 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1/2 cup crushed peanuts or mini peanut butter cups for topping
Instructions:
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or butter.
- In a large bowl, measure out 6 cups of Rice Krispie cereal and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows to the melted butter, stirring constantly until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add the smooth peanut butter to the marshmallow mixture, stirring until well combined and smooth.
- Pour the peanut butter-marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispie cereal in the large bowl. Mix well with a greased spatula or wooden spoon, ensuring that all the cereal is evenly coated.
- Transfer the Rice Krispie mixture to the prepared 9×13-inch baking dish. Use a greased spatula or your hands to press the mixture evenly into the dish.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can burn or seize.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the Rice Krispie layer in the baking dish, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.
- Optional: While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle crushed peanuts or mini peanut butter cups on top for an extra layer of flavor and texture.
- Allow the Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Bars to cool completely at room temperature, or place them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to speed up the process.
- Once the chocolate has set, cut the bars into squares or rectangles and enjoy!
This one satisfies my sweet tooth, that’s for sure! And it’ll go together on a day with your grandkids like, well, chocolate and peanut butter! 😛
