Cinnamon Stick Log Cabins Are A Delicious Smelling Fall Craft

What is your favorite autumn scent? While I love the smell of baking apple and pumpkin treats, my favorite scent of all may be cinnamon. Since chemical-smelling plug-ins do not cut it for me, I like to incorporate natural cinnamon sticks into my decor, which is where these festive little cinnamon stick log cabins come in!

Grab your grandkids for this one, as they not only smell great but are easy and fun to make:

Supplies:

  • Cinnamon sticks (depending on the size of your cabin, you might need 20-50 sticks)
  • Thick craft glue or a hot glue gun
  • Small piece of cardboard or thick cardstock
  • Moss, tiny pinecones, or other natural decorations (optional)
  • Craft paper or felt
  • Small pebbles or beads
  • Scissors

1. Prep your base

Start by deciding how large you’d like your log cabin to be. Once you have decided, cut a piece of cardboard or thick cardstock to that size, shaping it like a rectangle or square, which will serve as the foundation of your cabin.

2. Laying the foundation

Using your craft glue or hot glue gun, start attaching the cinnamon sticks side by side on the cardboard, ensuring they fit snugly next to each other. This will form the bottom layer of your log cabin walls.

3. Building the walls

Continue to glue the cinnamon sticks, layering them one on top of the other, just like you’re building with logs. (Remember to leave a gap for the door and, if you like, small windows.)

4. Crafting the roof

For the roof, you can fold a piece of craft paper or felt into a triangle shape (think of it like a tent) and glue it atop your cinnamon walls. If you’d like a more textured look, you could layer smaller pieces of the craft paper or felt to resemble shingles.

5. Decorate

Here’s where you can get really creative! Maybe you’d like a mossy front yard, or perhaps you’d prefer a small pathway made out of pebbles leading to the door? Glue whatever natural decorations you’d like to your base.

6. Finishing touches

Have fun with this one. You could draw a tiny door on a piece of craft paper, cut it out, and glue it to the gap you left in your cinnamon stick walls. If you left spaces for windows, you can also add those in.

7. Let it dry

Allow your cinnamon stick log cabin to dry thoroughly. (Depending on the type of glue used, drying times may vary.)

Conclusion

There you have it: A delightful cinnamon stick log cabin that not only looks adorable but smells divine, too! Cinnamon stick log cabins are a great fall decoration that offers a sensory experience for grandma and grandchild alike. Enjoy!
