The sun is going down earlier and earlier each night, and before we know it, Daylight Savings will end, and it will be pitched back by 6 p.m. Depressing, isn’t it? Don’t let the darker nights get you down – there are many ways that you and your grandkids can make the evenings a little brighter, beginning with these Autumn Glow Mason Jars that are equal parts festive and enchanting:

Supplies

  • Mason jars (any size will do)
  • Mod Podge or clear craft glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Tissue paper in autumn colors (reds, oranges, yellows, and browns)
  • Battery-operated tea lights or fairy lights
  • Twine or ribbon (optional, for decoration)
  • Autumn-themed stickers or decals (optional)
  • Scissors

1. Tissue base prep

Begin by tearing the tissue paper into small pieces. Remember, they don’t have to be uniform – In fact, irregular shapes often give a more organic and whimsical look!

2. Apply the tissue

Using your paintbrush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge or craft glue to a small section of the outside of the mason jar. Stick on the tissue paper pieces, overlapping them slightly, and continue this process until the entire jar is covered.

3. Second coat

Once you’ve applied all your tissue paper, go over it with another thin layer of Mod Podge or glue. (This will seal in the tissue paper and give the jar a nice finish.) Don’t worry: It will look white and cloudy at first, but it will dry clear!

4. Decorative touches

If you have autumn-themed stickers or decals (be it a tiny pumpkin, a golden leaf, or a cute scarecrow), you can apply them to the jars for added flair.

5. Twine time

For a rustic look, wrap twine or ribbon around the neck of the mason jar. You can even tie it in a bow or even add a tag with a lovely autumn saying.

6. Light it up

Once your jar is dry, drop a battery-operated tea light or a string of fairy lights inside. The light will glow beautifully through the tissue paper, casting warm autumn colors around the room.

7. Perfect placement

Find a cozy spot in your home for your Autumn Glow Mason Jar. Whether you set it on a mantle, the dining table, or on a window sill, it’s sure to add warmth, charm, and extra light to these long nights!

Conclusion

What do you think? These jars can be a fantastic project to undertake with the grandkids, allowing them to express their creativity while also learning a little about art and craft techniques. Enjoy your crafting time, and don’t forget to bask in the warm glow of your creation!
