You already know which kind of grandma you are 364 days of the year (and if you still need to figure it out, I can help you right here!), but do you know what kind of grandma you are at Christmas? That’s right: The most wonderful time of the year comes with its own set of grandmas!

Which is it: The spoiler? The perfectionist? What about the stickler for traditions?

Are you not sure? Read on, as we will delve into the nine different kinds of grandmas at Christmas, beginning with:

1. The crafty grandma

Why would you ever buy your decor (and half of your gifts) when you can make them yourself?! From December 1st on, your fingers are covered in glitter, and you are up to your eyeballs in ribbon, paper, and sequins. You, my friend, are one crafty grandma, and your house looks like a Christmas craft fair exploded in the best possible way!

2. The baking queen grandma

I mean, you bake year-round, but now you have even more of a reason to create countless cookies, bars, cakes, and pies. It’s Christmastime, and you are the baking queen! Raise your hand if you’ve got cookie cutters from the ’80s and a secret sugar cookie recipe that could win awards. I see you! Grandkids line up for your famous Christmas treats, and let’s be honest, so do the adults.

3. The over-decorator grandma

You have boxes and boxes (and more boxes and boxes) of Christmas decor that you have been collecting over the years, and by gosh, you will use it all. Your motto is ‘More is More’ when it comes to Christmas decor, and there’s not an inch of your house that isn’t festooned with tinsel, lights, or garlands. Neighbors come from far and wide to see your Christmas light display, which, let’s face it, is visible from space. It’s the most wonderful time of the year indeed. 😉

4. The “He’s the reason for the season” grandma

Why do we celebrate Christmas? No, it isn’t for Santa or tv specials (though I am a sucker for the latter)… For this grandma, it is all about the birth of Jesus, and rightly so! Your nativity scene is the centerpiece of your decor, and you’re the first to suggest a round of ‘Silent Night’ at the carol singalong. The true meaning of Christmas is often buried, so you do your best to keep it where it should be: at the forefront.

5. The tech-savvy grandma

Who says grandparents aren’t tech-savvy? In your case, you are busy  Facetiming with grandkids who can’t make it home for the holidays, sending e-cards, and showing off your digital photo frame filled with last year’s Christmas memories. You’re hip, you’re happening, and you’re one tech-savvy grandma!

6. The storyteller grandma

Is there anything as quintessential as snuggly storytimes at Christmas? There is not, and nobody knows this better than you, the storyteller grandma! Your grandkids can’t wait to snuggle up with you for storytime, as you have a trove of Christmas stories, and you tell them with such flair that even the adults stop to listen! (Do you have a story about a past Christmas where you trudged up a hill both ways in 10 feet of snow? Be sure to share that one, too.)

7. The “let’s open presents early!” grandma

Okay, I am guilty of this, but can you blame me? If you have the perfect gift, you don’t want to waste any time giving it to that special someone (in this case, your grandbaby). But enough about me – let’s move along…

8. The matchy-matchy grandma

Every year, you’ve got themed outfits for the whole family and get the BEST pictures because of it. Whether it’s ugly Christmas sweaters or adorable elf costumes, you ensure everyone is photo-ready and matching. (You’re welcome, family.)

9. The chill grandma

Last but certainly not least is the chill grandma, who is all about peace and calm. You’re happy to let others cook and decorate while you kick back with a cup of eggnog. Your mantra? “It’s all good.” Grandkids love your laid-back vibe and that you’re always up for a Christmas movie marathon, and your daughter-in-law loves that you aren’t standing over her shoulder the entire time she’s cooking.

Conclusion

Okay, be honest: Which grandma are you? I find that I am a mix of a few… Does that make me a mutt? Hehe. I hope this gave you a giggle and that you, my friend, have the most blessed Christmas ever! God bless.
