Do you ever wonder if I will run out of fresh and new ideas for my activity posts? Not so! In fact, I keep discovering new ways to create fun and colorful art pieces, and today is no exception. Fellow Devoted Grandmas: I present to you marble paint art!
As the name suggests, marble paint art uses marbles as your medium, creating a unique masterpiece. Here is how it works:
Supplies
- Shallow cardboard box or tray
- White drawing paper
- Marbles or small balls
- Washable paints
- Plastic spoons
- Water
- Paper towels
1. Preparation
Wear old clothes or aprons, and cover the table with newspapers or plastic for easy cleanup. Marble paint art can be a bit messy, but that’s part of the fun!
2. Cutting the paper
Once you have your mind wrapped around things being messy (hehe), you will want to trim the white paper so it fits flat at the bottom of your box or tray.
3. Choosing paint colors
Let your grandkids choose 2-3 paint colors to start with. (Too many colors can turn the art muddy, so it’s best to begin with a few and add more later if needed.)
4. Dipping the marbles
Dip a marble into a paint color, ensuring it gets coated well. Remember that using a plastic spoon can help keep everyone’s hands relatively clean.
5. Rolling time
Place the paint-coated marble into the box on top of the paper. Tilt the box in various directions, allowing the marble to roll around and spread the paint. You can add more than one marble at a time for varied effects.
6. Swapping colors
Once you’re satisfied with one color, you can use a different color. Use a new marble or wash the one you’ve used and repeat the process. The overlapping colors create interesting patterns and designs.
7. Drying
Once you’re satisfied with your artwork, carefully remove the paper and lay it flat to dry. Make sure to place it in an area where it won’t be disturbed.
8. Cleanup
This is the slightly less fun part, but can be turned into an activity in itself. Cleaning up immediately will prevent stains. Wash the marbles, the box, and any utensils used. If you use washable paints, they should come off easily with water.
Tips:
- Discuss with your grandchild what they think the patterns look like! Maybe they see a rainbow, a snake, or even a mysterious path.
- The art doesn’t have to be restricted to paper. You can use the same method to decorate cards, bookmarks, or even small canvases.
- You can also try using different-sized balls or other round objects for varied effects.
Conclusion
Marble paint art encourages creativity and the joy of discovery, as every piece will be uniquely different. What more can you want? Have fun creating – I would love to see your art when it is finished!
