Aren’t grandkids an absolute hoot? You never know what they will say next, which keeps us grandmas on our toes and makes life a little more interesting! To demonstrate this best, I am turning to my fellow Devoted Grandmas for your personal anecdotes on the quirky side of grandkids.
How many of these can you relate to?
“Oh, the day Lily decided to dress herself for the grocery store! Striped leggings, a polka dot top, and her brother’s baseball cap, all topped off with her fairy wings. She was so proud, strutting through the aisles like a runway model!” -Joan
“Brendon’s kitchen help turned into an experiment when he made a sandwich with jam and cheese. He called it a ‘Brendon Special’. Well, I must admit, it wasn’t half bad!” -Margaret
“Last Friday, Ellie suddenly cranked up the radio and started a dance-off. Her ‘robot meets ballerina’ moves had us in stitches. That girl’s got rhythm!” -Anne
“When we found a little bug who’d met its end, Jake insisted on a proper funeral. We had a matchbox coffin and a ceremony under the oak tree. Bless his tender heart.” -Susan
“Mia singing in the bath is a treat, especially when she belts out ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ as ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Chocolate Bar’. It’s hard to correct her when it’s so cute!” -Nancy
“Hearing Benny say ‘pasghetti’ instead of spaghetti never gets old. And according to him, the ‘s’ is silent!” -Betty
“Walking with Sam means stopping every few steps to pocket a rock or leaf. His pants were nearly falling down by the time we got home, laden with his ‘treasures’!” -Linda
“Just as I tucked Gracie in, she asked, ‘Grandma, do stars wish on us?’ That girl’s questions could stump a philosopher!” -Helen
“Max’s drawing of our family had everyone with green skin and six fingers. He said it was more ‘interesting’ that way. Future Picasso, perhaps?” -Patty
“Danny’s Lego creations defy gravity. He once built what he called an ‘upside-down castle’. I still can’t figure out how it stood up!” -Barb
“Jenny helping in the garden is a sight – she talks to each flower as she waters it. According to her, it helps them grow!” -Shirley
“The duet between Ford and the family dog while she practices his recorder is music to my ears. Well, sort of!” -Denni
“Watching Charlie play detective and solve the mystery of the missing cookies (which he’d eaten) was like watching a play. He even had a magnifying glass!” -Alice
“Sarah doing her version of yoga is something else. She says it’s ‘flamingo pose’ when she stands on one leg and flaps her arms. Who am I to argue?” -Janet
“Oliver picking tomatoes and then trying to make a ‘tomato cake’ was a messy business. He’s convinced he’s a chef in the making!” -Joyce
“The day Emma decided to ‘help’ the flowers grow by pouring her juice over them – well, it was one sticky garden!” -Carol
“Noah’s bedtime stories are wilder than any book. Last night, a dragon and a princess teamed up to open a bakery. I’m all ears every night!” -Evelyn
“When Jax dresses up, he doesn’t hold back. A pirate hat, a superhero cape, and rain boots – all at once. He says it’s his ‘adventure outfit’.” -Georgeanne
