We all want to be the best grandparents we can be. And the key to being the most efficient grandma is to not compromise your relationship with your own kids. There are some pretty simple ways, but they may not always be obvious. Check out how to be a wonderful grandparent according to the video below! 🙂

Tell the grandchildren fun personal stories

Make sure to always tell stories about your own life and their parents when they were little. It helps them relate, and the grands love to hear these things!

Show respect to their parents

Always be respectful of your kids and their spouses no matter how hard it may get. We don’t want to step on any toes and confuse the young ones.

Stay involved

Stay involved in their lives and spend lots of time listening. Ask if they would like your advice before interjecting.

Make your home their home

You know what they say — There’s no place like home, except Grandma’s! Give the grandchildren a home away from home where they can be just as comfortable.

Teach life lessons

Use your experience and wisdom to pass on life lessons. Allow your mistakes to be the teacher so that they can avoid those same missteps in life.

Don’t play favorites

While I’m sure you would never do this on purpose, we have to be careful not to make it seem like we have favorites. Although some personalities just mesh better, it’s important to let each and every grandchild know how loved they are.

Don’t undermine your kids’ rules

Rules are rules for a reason. And whether we agree with them or not, we have to allow our children to be the parents. It’s their turn! Even when you are alone with the grands, don’t undo their rules.

If we keep these things in the front of our minds, we’ll all be better off for it! Sometimes easier said than done though. But the grandchildren are worth it! 😀
