8 Easy And Tasty Thanksgiving Desserts That You Can Make With Your Grandkids

Don’t you love baking with your grandkids? Not only is it a great way to bond, but it also teaches them a lifelong skill AND passes down family recipes. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, why not include them in the preparations with some easy-to-make desserts? 

Here are 8 of my favorite easy treats that you and your grandkids will love to make (and eat), too: 

1. Mini pumpkin pies

Ingredients:

  • Ready-made pie crust
  • 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Steps:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Unroll the pie crust and let the grandkids use cookie cutters to cut out circles. Press these into a muffin tin.
  3. Mix pumpkin puree, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, and pumpkin pie spice in a bowl. Pour the mixture into the crusts.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake for another 20-25 minutes. Cool before serving.

2. Thanksgiving turkey cupcakes

Ingredients:

  • Boxed cupcake mix (and necessary ingredients like eggs, oil, and water)
  • Chocolate frosting
  • Candy corn
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Red icing

Steps:

  1. Prepare and bake the cupcakes according to the package instructions.
  2. Once cooled, frost the cupcakes with chocolate frosting.
  3. Let the grandkids decorate them to look like turkeys using candy corn for feathers, mini chocolate chips for eyes, and red icing for the wattle.

3. Easy apple crisp

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups peeled and sliced apples
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • â…“ cup softened butter
  • ¾ tsp cinnamon
  • ¾ tsp nutmeg

Steps:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place apple slices in a baking dish.
  3. Mix brown sugar, flour, oats, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.

4. No-bake pumpkin cheesecake

Ingredients:

  • 1 premade graham cracker crust
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 cup whipped topping
  • ½ cup sugar

Steps:

  1. Beat cream cheese, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and sugar in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Fold in the whipped topping and pour the mixture into the graham cracker crust.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving.

5. Chocolate acorns

Ingredients:

  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Chocolate kisses
  • Mini Nilla Wafers
  • Peanut butter or chocolate frosting

Steps:

  1. Use a small dab of peanut butter or frosting to stick a chocolate kiss to a Nilla Wafer.
  2. Then, attach a mini chocolate chip to the top of the Nilla Wafer using more peanut butter or frosting.
  3. Let them set, and enjoy your cute acorn treats.

6. Pilgrim hat cookies

Ingredients:

  • Fudge-striped cookies
  • Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
  • Yellow icing

Steps:

  1. Place a Reese’s cup upside down on the chocolate side of a fudge-striped cookie.
  2. Use the yellow icing to pipe a small square buckle on the front, creating a Pilgrim hat.

7. Rice Krispy Treat turkeys

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 package (10 oz) marshmallows
  • Candy corn
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Red icing

Steps:

  1. Melt butter in a large pot over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
  2. Remove from heat, add Rice Krispies cereal, and stir until well coated.
  3. When cool enough to handle, shape the mixture into balls.
  4. Decorate with candy corn feathers, mini chocolate chip eyes, and red icing wattle.

8. Easy fruit salad

Ingredients:

  • Various fruits (like apples, grapes, berries, and oranges), chopped
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Steps:

  1. Combine chopped fruits in a large bowl.
  2. Drizzle with honey and lemon juice, and gently toss to coat.
  3. Chill in the fridge before serving.
