By Friday, our grandkids may have plenty to tell us or barely enough energy to answer, “How was your week?”

There have been classes, assignments, friendships to figure out, and perhaps a few moments they’d rather forget. Even a good week can leave a person ready for a snack and some peace and quiet. Goodness, I understand that feeling myself!

That’s why I love a little Friday text. Nothing that requires a full report. Just a sweet reminder that Grandma is thinking of them, cheering them on, and available if they need her.

Sometimes I send something heartfelt. Sometimes I send something silly enough to earn an eye roll. I consider an affectionate eye roll a perfectly respectable form of success.

Here are 25 texts to help your grandchild finish the week with a little more love and, hopefully, a smile.

  1. “Happy Friday, sweetheart! If this week had a blooper reel, I hope you can laugh at at least one scene. Mine would require an intermission.”
  2. “Before you start counting everything you didn’t get done this week, remember all the things you DID. Getting through a difficult day counts, too. ❤️”
  3. “Your Friday delivery has arrived! 📦 Inside you’ll find one enormous hug, two proud Grandma smiles, and absolutely no homework.”
  4. “I hope something small makes you ridiculously happy today. Your favorite song, a delicious snack, or finding out a canceled plan means you can stay in pajamas.”
  5. “Whatever kind of week you’ve had, you don’t have to put a cheerful ending on it for me. I love you on the ‘best week ever’ Fridays and the ‘please don’t ask’ Fridays.”
  6. “Friday question of great importance: If your week were a weather forecast, would it be sunshine, scattered confusion, or a 90% chance of needing pizza?”
  7. “Somewhere in the middle of my ordinary Friday, I thought of you and smiled. Thought you should know you have that effect on people. Especially this grandma.”
  8. “You don’t need an exciting answer when someone asks about your weekend plans. ‘Resting and eating something good’ sounds like a very fine schedule to me.”
  9. “I’m proud of the things you did this week that nobody thought to clap for. Trying again. Being patient. Asking for help. Those things matter, sweetheart.”
  10. “Happy Friday! I would send you a homemade treat through this phone, but apparently technology has been working on the wrong things. 🍪”
  11. “If there’s a moment from this week you keep wishing you could redo, be gentle with yourself. You’re allowed to learn something and keep going.”
  12. “Tell me one tiny victory from your week, if you feel like sharing. I’m prepared to be very impressed. Finally finding your missing sock is eligible.”
  13. “Here is your Friday reminder that being fun to spend time with has nothing to do with spending money. Some of my favorite memories started with ‘Well, what should we do now?’”
  14. “I hope you get to spend a little time this weekend doing something simply because you enjoy it. You don’t have to be good at it or show anybody.”
  15. “Grandma’s Friday review of you: wonderful company, excellent smile, deeply loved. Would happily spend another weekend with you. Five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”
  16. “If this week brought disappointing news, I’m sorry, sweetheart. You don’t have to rush past that feeling. I’m here for talking, listening, or a distraction.”
  17. “I wish I could sit beside you for a few minutes today. We wouldn’t have to talk about anything important. I’d be happy just hearing what you want for lunch.”
  18. “May your Friday include a friend who makes you laugh so hard you forget the story you were trying to tell.”
  19. “Did you hear about the grandma who tried to act cool on Friday? Neither did I. I was too busy looking for the glasses on my head. Love you!”
  20. “You can tell me about a good thing that happened this week without worrying that you’re bragging. I would love a reason to say, ‘That’s my grandchild!’”
  21. “If your friends are busy this weekend, I hope you still do something nice for yourself. Your own company deserves a good snack and a little adventure, too.”
  22. “Happy Friday to someone who has made my life happier just by being in it. You didn’t even have to do the dishes. That’s how much I love you.”
  23. “Before the week ends, think of one moment you’d like to keep. Something funny, something kind, something beautiful. I’d love to hear yours. I’ll find one to share, too.”
  24. “No need to reply, sweetheart. I’m just slipping a little love into your Friday. Imagine me giving your hand a squeeze and saying, ‘I’m glad I get to be your grandma.’”
  25. “As this week ends, there’s nothing you need to achieve to make me love you more. I already do, with my whole heart. Have a lovely weekend, sweetheart. ❤️”

Choose whichever message sounds most like you, and give it a personal touch. Mention their favorite snack, wish them luck at Saturday’s game, or remind them of a joke you shared.

And if you don’t get a reply right away, let the message be a little gift they can open without owing you anything back.

One loving sentence can be a lovely way to end a long week. Especially when it comes from Grandma.
