The Tree on the Hill

May 11, 2026

On top of a windy hill stood a single old tree.

Its branches were twisted. Its bark was rough. Compared to the smooth, perfect trees growing lower in the valley, it looked worn and weathered.

One day, a young sapling growing nearby asked the old tree, “Why do you look so different from the others?”

The old tree swayed gently in the wind before answering.

“Because I stayed through every storm.”

The sapling didn’t fully understand.

It had only known calm weather and gentle rain. Life still felt easy.

But as the seasons passed, storms began to come.

Strong winds bent the sapling until it thought it might break. Cold nights made growth feel impossible. Some days were so harsh that the sapling wished it could escape the hill entirely.

“I can’t do this,” it cried one stormy night.

The old tree replied calmly, “You can. Just endure.”

So the sapling held on.

Storm after storm.
Season after season.

Each one felt difficult while it was happening. Sometimes growth seemed invisible. Sometimes survival alone felt like enough.

But slowly, something changed.

Its roots grew deeper.
Its trunk grew stronger.
The winds that once nearly uprooted it became easier to withstand.

Years later, the sapling had become a strong tree of its own.

One day, it looked out over the valley and realized something surprising.

The trees that had never faced strong winds looked beautiful, but they were fragile. The first truly harsh storm bent many of them to the ground.

But the tree on the hill stood firm.

Because endurance had shaped it differently.

It had not grown through comfort alone.

It had grown through resistance.

The young tree finally understood what the old tree had meant all those years ago.

The storms had not been there to destroy it.

They had strengthened it.

And that is often how life works too.

The difficult seasons.
The long waits.
The exhausting moments where you feel like giving up…

Those are often the very things building strength inside you.

Because endurance is not simply surviving hardship.

It is becoming stronger because you refused to quit while going through it. 💛
