The Thank You List

December 25, 2025

There was a woman named Hannah who believed gratitude was easy when life was kind, and nearly impossible when it wasn’t.

That year, life hadn’t been kind.

Plans fell apart. A job opportunity slipped away. A relationship she cherished changed in ways she didn’t expect. Each day felt heavy, and joy felt distant.

One evening, while cleaning out a drawer, Hannah found a small, empty notebook. On the first page, written in her own handwriting from years before, were the words:
Things to be thankful for.

She almost laughed. Now? she thought.

But something inside her nudged her to try.

That night, she wrote one thing, just one:
I’m thankful I made it through today.

The next day was still hard. Nothing improved overnight. But she wrote again:
I’m thankful for warm tea.

Another day:
I’m thankful for a message from a friend.

Some days, gratitude came easily.
Some days, she had to search for it.

But slowly, something changed.

Hannah noticed more. The way sunlight filtered through the window. The comfort of familiar routines. The quiet strength she didn’t know she still had.

Gratitude didn’t fix her problems, but it softened her heart. It reminded her that even in broken seasons, life still offered small mercies.

One day, she reread her list and realized something powerful:
She had been grateful in every circumstance, not because everything was good, but because she chose to look for good anyway.

Gratitude didn’t deny her pain.
It walked alongside it.

And that’s the quiet miracle of thankfulness, it doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. It blooms wherever we let it grow.

Even there. 🌱
