There was a young woman named Alina who always stayed just one step behind her potential.
She was capable, hardworking, and full of ideas, but when it came time to step forward, she hesitated. She second-guessed herself. She waited for the “right time,” which never quite seemed to arrive.
At work, she often had solutions but stayed quiet.
In life, she had dreams but kept them tucked away.
She told herself, Maybe I’m not ready yet.
One afternoon, her manager, Mrs. Patel, noticed something.
After a meeting where Alina had remained silent, she said gently, “You had something to say, didn’t you?”
Alina looked down. “I did… I just wasn’t sure if it was good enough.”
Mrs. Patel smiled. “You don’t grow by waiting until you’re certain. You grow by trying.”
The next day, another opportunity came up, a chance to lead a small project.
Alina immediately thought of reasons to step back.
What if I mess up?
What if I’m not as good as others?
But before she could decline, Mrs. Patel said, “I think you should take this on. I’ve seen what you’re capable of.”
It wasn’t a forceful push.
It was a gentle nudge, backed by belief.
Alina agreed.
The first few days were uncomfortable. She stumbled. She questioned herself. But she kept going. She learned as she went. She made mistakes, and fixed them.
Slowly, confidence replaced hesitation.
By the time the project was complete, Alina stood differently. Not because she had become someone new, but because she had finally allowed herself to step into who she already was.
Later, she thanked Mrs. Patel.
“I wouldn’t have done it without you,” she said.
Mrs. Patel shook her head. “You just needed a little push. The rest was always in you.”
And that’s the truth.
Sometimes people don’t lack ability, they lack that moment of encouragement that helps them take the first step.
Because potential isn’t something you suddenly gain…
It’s something you uncover when someone helps you believe enough to try.
And often, the difference between staying where you are and becoming who you could be…
is just one small push in the right direction. 💛
