There was a young man named Isaac who dreamed of doing something great with his life.
He had ideas.
He had talent.
He had opportunities.
Yet year after year, nothing seemed to change.
Whenever someone asked why he hadn’t started pursuing his dream, Isaac always had an answer.
“I’m waiting until I know more.”
“I’m not experienced enough.”
“Maybe next year.”
He convinced himself that success belonged to people who were luckier, smarter, or born with more confidence than he was.
One afternoon, while hiking through the countryside, Isaac came across a large wooden gate blocking a narrow path.
On the other side, he could see a beautiful valley stretching into the distance.
He walked up to the gate and pulled on it.
It didn’t move.
“It’s locked,” he muttered.
Disappointed, he sat down nearby.
Hours passed.
Other hikers arrived.
To Isaac’s surprise, every single one of them walked straight to the gate…
…and simply pushed it.
The gate swung open effortlessly.
It had never been locked.
It only opened in the opposite direction.
Embarrassed, Isaac walked through after them.
An elderly hiker who had noticed the whole thing smiled and said,
“It’s funny how often we convince ourselves a door is locked without ever really trying to open it.”
Those words stayed with Isaac long after the hike ended.
That evening, he thought about his own life.
How many opportunities had he walked away from because he assumed he wasn’t ready?
How many dreams had he abandoned before taking the first real step?
How many times had fear disguised itself as logic?
He slowly realized something difficult.
Many of the walls he blamed…
Didn’t actually exist.
He had built them himself.
His fear of failure.
His fear of rejection.
His fear of not being good enough.
Those had been the real barriers.
The next morning, Isaac decided to stop waiting for perfect confidence.
He applied for opportunities he once believed were out of reach.
He started projects before he felt completely ready.
He accepted that mistakes would be part of the journey instead of reasons to avoid it.
Not everything worked out.
Some plans failed.
Some doors remained closed.
But many others opened simply because he had finally been willing to push.
Years later, when people asked Isaac the secret to his success, he smiled.
“I stopped standing in my own way.”
Because the truth is, life does place obstacles in front of us.
But sometimes…
The biggest obstacle is the voice inside us that keeps saying,
“You can’t.”
And the moment you stop believing that voice…
You may discover that the gate you feared was never locked at all. 💛
