Growing old is beautiful, and I am sad when others are unhappy with aging and their appearance. Sure, I wouldn’t mind trading in a few of these wrinkles, but I also like to remind myself that my crow’s feet and smile lines show signs of a happy and well-lived life.

While I never plan to get out and get any work done (why should I?), I still want to look like my happiest, healthiest, and best self, which is why I swear by these simple age-defying tips that make me look and feel better (and a little younger!):

1. Drink up!

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin plump and glowing. Staying hydrated benefits your overall health and helps maintain a more youthful complexion. Cheers!

2. Become skincare savvy

Treat your skin with the love and attention it deserves by investing in a skincare routine that caters to your needs. To do so, you can consult with a local esthetician or cosmetologist, who can point you in the right direction that meets your needs and budget. Oh, and don’t forget the importance of sunscreen! If it is within your means, you may want to consider…

3. Invest in high-quality products

…Upgrading your skincare routine with products that contain age-defying ingredients, such as retinol, peptides, and antioxidants. Regular use can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, giving you a more youthful appearance.

4. Get a flattering hairstyle

Has anyone else noticed that our grandparents seemed much older than grandparents today? Part of that is due to the aforementioned skincare, plus our more modern hairstyles. To avoid these bygone, black-and-white days, visit your hairstylist for a cut and color that complements your face shape and skin tone. A fresh, modern hairstyle can instantly take years off your appearance and boost your confidence.

5. Be a “Glamma”

Coined by Goldie Hawn, a “Glamma” is a glamorous fashionista grandma who stays current on the latest trends. To start, incorporate colors into your wardrobe that flatter your skin tone and make you look more youthful. Rich, vibrant hues can brighten your complexion and help you feel rejuvenated.

To take your style to the next level, pair your outfits with accessories that add a touch of fun and vibrancy to your outfits. Bold, colorful scarves, statement jewelry, and stylish sunglasses can instantly update your look and make you appear more youthful.

6. Update Your Eyewear

Who else wore giant bottlecap glasses in the 80s and 90s? Gone are the days of these hideous specs, as there are now many adorable glasses that can complement any personality. If you wear glasses, choose frames that complement your face shape and add a touch of style. Opt for lightweight materials and modern designs to keep your look fresh and youthful.

7. Give your hands some TLC

Your hands can reveal your age, so give them some extra love. Moisturize regularly, use sunscreen, and indulge in a manicure to keep your hands looking soft and smooth. (Yes: I give you permission to treat yourself to a manicure – you’ve earned it!)

8. Keep your pearly whites – well, pearly and white

A bright, healthy smile can make you look and feel younger. Regular dental check-ups, professional cleanings, and teeth whitening treatments will help keep your pearly whites looking their best.

9. Learn how to apply makeup properly

Learn makeup techniques that accentuate your best features and help you look refreshed. Opt for lighter foundations, cream-based blushes, and subtle eyeshadows to give your face a natural, youthful glow. (If you’re visiting the esthetician for a skincare routine, you can inquire about makeup at the same consultation.)

10. Boost your collagen production

You have heard the term, but what exactly is collagen? Come to find out, it is the most abundant protein in the body that is used to make tissue, and it is essential for maintaining your skin’s youthful appearance. Boost your body’s collagen production by including collagen-rich foods, like bone broth and fish, or by taking collagen supplements. Speaking of a better diet…

11. Maintain a balanced diet

…A healthy diet can work wonders for your skin, hair, and nails. Incorporate antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats into your meals to nourish your body and promote a younger appearance.

12. Celebrate your unique features

You’re beautiful, and your natural beauty should be highlighted! Embrace and highlight the features that make you stand out. Confidence is attractive and can make you appear more youthful, so own your unique qualities and let your personality shine.

While you do not need to look younger by any stretch of the imagination, these tips are practical ones that are easy to obtain if you want to look your very best. Keep doing what you’re doing because you have a whole family who loves you just the way you are inside and out.
