What Your Famous Dish Says About You As A Grandma – Which Is You?

December 14, 2023

Every grandma has a food she is known for – it just goes with the territory! Whether you are a baker extraordinaire (a favorite among my grandbabies) or have mastered the perfect fried chicken, your family comes to your house hoping you will surprise them with those cookies or that tasty entree.

It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it! (Hehe.)

This got me thinking: What do these recipes say about us and our grandma style? I had so much fun writing this one, so I hope it gives you a good chuckle. Without further ado, here is what your famous dish says about YOU, grandma:

1. Chocolate chip cookies: The classic comforter

Ah, yes – everyone’s favorite treat (says the unbiased grandma who prides herself on her cookie recipe, hehe)! The cookie-baking grandma is the one who is all about comfort and coziness. Your home is where everyone gathers, and your hugs are as warm and comforting as those cookies straight out of the oven.

2. Perfect fried chicken: The Southern Belle

Crispy, juicy, and cooked to perfection – mmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. If fried chicken is your claim to fame, you’re a traditionalist with a flair for the dramatic who knows the value of patience (because good chicken can’t be rushed). Need I mention that your kitchen is filled with laughter, love, and maybe even some of your sassy wisdom?

3. Hearty casseroles: The problem solver

If a hearty casserole is your specialty, you, my friend, are likely the pragmatic, no-nonsense type. You know how to feed a crowd and are fearless in throwing in a bit of this or that to make things work (and believe me, they work just fine! :P). You’re resourceful and dependable, and your casserole dish is always the first empty at any family gathering or church potluck.

4. Spaghetti and Meatballs: Nonna

Whether you’re Italian or not, if spaghetti and meatballs are your signature dish, you’re all about family. Your meals are a time for lively conversation, a bit of vino, and lots of love, just like it was at your Nonna’s house. You believe in the power of a good meal to unite people, and your spaghetti nights are legendary. Buon appetite!

5. Apple pie: The sweetheart storyteller

An apple pie that’s just the right mix of sweet and tart? It may be hard for some, but it’s your signature, as you’re the grandma with the best stories, a twinkle in your eye, and a knack for making everyone feel special. Your apple pie isn’t just a dessert but a slice of Americana nostalgia.

6. Homemade bread: The nurturing soul

If baking bread – and other made-from-scratch goodness – is your forte, you’re likely the nurturing, patient type. The smell of freshly baked bread is your signature scent (and one that your family will forever associate with you), and you find joy in the simple things. Kneading dough is your therapy, and your kitchen is a haven of warmth everyone loves visiting.

7. Chicken noodle soup: The healer

You worked hard to perfect it, and now your chicken noodle soup is the cure for everything from colds to heartbreaks. You’re the grandma who is always there to listen and make it all better. Not only that, but you also believe in the healing power of food, a la your famous chicken noodle soup.

8. Sunday roast: The tradition keeper

Is there anything that screams “Sunday” more than your famous pot roast and potatoes? If you’re nodding your head, you are the keeper of traditions and hope and pray your descendants continue even after you’re gone. You cherish family dinners, storytelling, and passing down recipes and wisdom through generations.

9. Garden salad: The health guru

If your specialty is a fresh garden salad packed with veggies from your own garden, you’re the health-conscious, sprightly grandma. You’re all about living life to the fullest, staying active, and teaching your grandkids the importance of caring for themselves. Thank you for setting a great example and teaching us all that healthy can be delicious!

10. Pancakes (or anything) with a twist: The fun-loving innovator

Pancakes in fun shapes or with unexpected ingredients? That’s your signature! You’re the fun, slightly quirky grandma who loves to surprise and delight. Your kitchen is a place of experimentation and laughter, and your pancakes are as unique as you are.

Conclusion

What do you think – did I get it right? Let me know if I did (and which grandma style you are). I love to spend time and laugh with you, so I look forward to talking with you again soon. God bless, my friends!
