Are you looking for fun places to take your grandkids that won’t cost you an arm and a leg?
Well, you’re in luck because there are plenty of free places that you can take them that they will absolutely love. You don’t always have to pay for experiences, laughs, and good times! Here are some of my favorite completely free places to take my grandchildren…
1. Museums
Museums are an amazing way to teach your grandkids about history, science, and art. Many museums offer free admission or have specific days where admission is free. You can check online or call ahead to see if the museum you want to visit offers this. My grandkids love going to the museum and seeing all the cool exhibits. We learn something new every time we go!
2. Parks
Parks are a great place to take your grandkids to get some fresh air and exercise. There are so many different types of parks to choose from – some have playgrounds, others have hiking trails, and some even have lakes or rivers. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the day exploring! My little ones love to play on the swings and go down the slides. We also like to bring a frisbee or a ball to play catch.
3. Concerts
Concerts are a great way to expose your grandkids to different types of music. Many cities offer free concerts in the park during the summer months. Check your local newspaper or community website to see if there are any upcoming concerts in your area. There’s nothing like dancing and singing along to the music! We bring a blanket and some snacks and make a whole day out of it. 🙂
4. Library
The library is a wonderful place to take your grandkids to encourage their love of reading. Most libraries offer free storytime sessions for young children. They also have a wide selection of books, movies, and music that you can borrow for free. We love to pick out new books to read, and we always leave with a stack of them!
5. Beach
If you live near a beach, take advantage of it! The beach is a wonderful place to spend the day with your grandchildren. You can build sandcastles, go for a swim, or just relax and soak up the sun! Pack a lunch and some sunscreen and you’re good to go. They will love to collect seashells and chase the waves.
6. Farmer’s Market
Take your grandkids to the local farmer’s market for a fun and educational experience. Many farmer’s markets offer free samples of fresh produce and baked goods, and you can also teach your grandkids about healthy eating and the benefits of buying local. It’s fun to help pick out fruits and veggies to bring home and cook with!
7. Botanical Gardens
If you’re looking for a peaceful and scenic place to take your grands, botanical gardens are a good option. Many botanical gardens offer free admission, and you can spend the day exploring beautiful gardens and learning about different plant species. My grandkids love to see all the different flowers and trees, and we always take lots of pictures!
8. Nature Reserves
Nature reserves will get you outside with the grands to explore the natural world and all its beauty! Many nature reserves offer free admission and have hiking trails, wildlife viewing areas, and educational exhibits. Soak it all in and see the animals and plants that live in the reserve. We always bring binoculars to get a closer look!
9. Art Galleries
If the kids love art, take them to a local art gallery for a free and inspiring experience. Many galleries offer free admission or have specific days when viewing is free. You can spend the day looking at beautiful paintings and sculptures, and you can also talk to your grandkids about the different techniques and styles used by the artists!
10. Historical Sites
If you want to teach your grandkids about history, take them to a free historical site in your area. You can explore old buildings and landmarks, and learn about the people and events that shaped your community. My grandkids love to imagine what life was like in the past, and we always learn something new when we visit these places!
In the end, there are so many free that you can take your grandkids without having to pay an admission charge. Museums, parks, concerts, libraries, and beaches are just a few examples.
