30 Fall Jokes to Make Your Grandchild Laugh Until Their Leaves Shake

October 8, 2026

There are so many things I love about fall. The colorful leaves. The cozy sweaters. The perfectly reasonable excuse to bake something with cinnamon in it.

But getting a grandchild to laugh? That beats even a warm slice of apple pie.

And thankfully, we grandmas don’t need a whole comedy routine. Sometimes, one wonderfully ridiculous pumpkin joke will do. Even if your grandchild says, “Grandma, that was TERRIBLE!” while smiling, I believe that still counts.

These little jokes are perfect for lunchbox notes, a quick text, or your next phone call. Share one at a time, give them a moment to guess, and prepare yourself for giggles, groans, and possibly a joke contest you never intended to start.

Turn One Little Joke Into a Fall Tradition

You don’t have to share all 30 at once. In fact, I rather like the idea of saving a few giggles for tomorrow.

Slip a joke into a lunchbox, with the answer folded underneath. If your grandchild lives far away, text the question first and let them guess before sending the punchline. On a phone call, try your most serious voice. Somehow, saying “Why did the apple pie go to the dentist?” as though it’s a very important question makes it even sillier.

You could also ask your grandchild to rate each joke. One point for a groan, two for a smile, and three for a proper laugh. Then invite them to find, or invent, a joke that can beat Grandma’s.

And if you have a teenager who replies with nothing but an eye-roll emoji? Send back, “I’ll put you down for one enthusiastic groan.” Some days, a tiny, silly exchange is a lovely way to keep the conversation going.

Years from now, they may not remember which pumpkin joke you told. But I hope they remember that Grandma always had something tucked away just to make them smile.

Preferably a joke. Occasionally a cookie. Ideally both.
