Temperatures are continuing to drop, which can only mean one thing: Winter is coming, and with it, snow and frigid temperatures. While this time of year can be seen as dreary, many things can make it enjoyable, like experiencing the excitement through your grandchild(ren)’s eyes!

Do you want to make it even more fun and exciting for both you and the grands? Bundle them – and you! – up and take them out for this chilly, outdoor winter wonderland scavenger hunt! You don’t need anything fancy to partake – just give them these fun clues and let the search ensue:

Clue One:

In the woods, where trees stand tall and proud,
Look for a treasure that’s not too loud.

It’s brown and pointy and falls to the ground,
Amongst the pine trees, it’s sure to be found.

Answer: Pinecone

Clue Two:

Unique and cold, it falls from the sky,
Look up as they float gently by.
Catch one on your glove for a moment so brief,
Each one a wonder, like a tiny ice leaf.

Answer: Snowflake

Clue Three:

Hanging from roofs, clear and long,
These winter spears are chilly and strong.
Watch how they glisten in the sun’s light,
Find them around, shining so bright.

Answer: Icicles

Clue Four:

On the snowy ground, creatures leave a sign,
Patterns so neat, in a straight line.
Look where the snow is fresh and packed,
And you might find where someone has tracked.

Answer: Animal tracks

Clue Five:

A jolly figure, round and tall,
With a carrot nose that might just fall.
He might have a hat and a scarf so neat,
Find him standing, but he has no feet.

Answer: Snowman

Clue Six:

Water once flowing, now still as can be,
Look for a surface as flat as can be.
It’s slippery and cold, and ice is its cover,
Be sure to admire it safely, just hover.

Answer: Frozen lake

Clue Seven:

Red as a ruby, and small as can be,
Amongst the green leaves, these gems you’ll see.
On a bush where the winter birds like to dine,
These little red berries are a fine winter sign.

Answer: Holly berries

Clue Eight:

Down the hill, it races fast,
Fun in the snow, such a blast!
Look for a tool that makes this true,
A winter ride for me and you.

Answer: Sled

Clue Nine:

Wrap it around to stay cozy and snug,
A fabric snake with a warm, tight hug.
It might be lying on a snowman’s neck,
Or hung on a hook, so come and check!

Answer: Scarf

Clue Ten:

Once clothed in green, now bare and stark,
Its branches reach out in the park.
Look for a tree that’s lost its dress,
Standing tall in winter’s caress.

Answer: Bare tree
