Your grandkids are your world, and you want to give and show them the world, but things today are too darn expensive. While a trip overseas to see all the sights and hear all the sounds would be fun, it is not obtainable for most of us. This said, what is a Grandma to do?
Why, bring the world to your grandkids, of course!
Why spend an arm and a leg on international travel when you can host an international day in the comfort of your home? From authentic cuisine to unique music and festive decor, get ready to turn your humble abode into an international hot spot! The question is: Where will you take your grandkids first?
1. Choose your country

While you can do a full-blown around-the-world tour, I like to focus on just one place at a time (it also gives me a chance to have more special days like this!). Give your grandkids a list of potential places they can travel, whether it be countries they learned about in school or where your ancestors originated. Variety is the spice of life, so try to think outside the box regarding potential locations.
2. Create passports
You can’t leave the country without a passport, so be sure to whip up a few before your big adventure! Passports can be easy to make (there are plenty of templates online), or you can purchase cute ones from sites like Etsy or Oriental Trading.
3. Learn the language
Before you “go,” learn a few words and phrases in your country’s native language. (This may sound daunting, but Youtube has some short and sweet videos – or you can always ask Alexa!)
4. Dive into traditional folktales and storytelling

Every country has a chest filled with riveting folktales and legends, many of which can be found at your local library. I can picture it now: a cozy storytelling session, with tales from far and wide coming alive in your living room. Adventure awaits in every word!
5. Create cultural masterpieces
No visit to Grandma’s is complete without some arts and crafts, so why not make something unique to the country you are visiting? (Imagine the delight of crafting Japanese origami birds or designing vibrant Mexican paper flowers!)
6. Remember the tunes!
What’s that sound? Why yes – it is the sound of the country’s native music playing on your Alexa! Music is the heartbeat of every culture, so let’s get those tiny feet tapping to the unique rhythms of your chosen country.
7. Savor the flavor

No international day is complete without a food fiesta, so let’s don our chef hats and cook up some traditional dishes! I love to shop at World Market for different kinds of food, but you should check out local ethnic markets, too.
8. Cinematic culture
Wrap up your International Day with a heartwarming movie or cartoon about or from our selected country. You can find these kinds of films on most streaming apps, especially YouTube!
Conclusion
Bon voyage, Grandma! Remember to take lots of pictures – after all, it isn’t every day that you get to travel to an exotic new place with your grandkids. 😛 Have fun, and let’s talk again soon.
